Quinta Dos Brejos Golf Academy Opens (two minutes from Apartment)

The pre-opening of the Algarve Golf Academy will be held in Albufeira on August 15, a project under the seal of Real Hotels.

At about 500 meters from the hotel Real Bellavista in Quinta Dos Brejos, the Academy of Golf includes; a driving range, putting green and areas to practice your short game, in all its aspects.

The inhouse equipment includes computerized equipment for analysis of swing and analysis of putt.

The Club House includes a restaurant, bar, terrace, a golf shop and locker rooms.

According to Lawrence Ribeiro, area director of Real Hotels Algarve, one of the objectives for the academy is to, 'be recognized as one of the best golfers of training centres in Portugal.

Daniel Silva, has been named as the Academy's golf pro and he has an an exemplary curriculum. He is one of the few people with the capacity to train both amateur and professional golfers. He has more than 20 years experience on the international tour, winning 13 European tournament and he was the highest ranking player in Portugal for a record number of years.

Algarve Motor Park Opening November

GOOD PROGRESS is being made at the Algarve Motor Park and everything is on schedule for the first competitive race to take place on the new circuit in November.

The ambitious project has taken seven years to reach this stage.

Nuno Cerqueira of Parkalgar said: “People thought my CO, Paulo Pinheiro, was crazy to try and attempt such a huge project but look at it now, it doesn’t look so crazy anymore.” The motor park is already an impressive sight, with the grandstand already partially constructed and looming large as you enter the site. The first layers of tarmac for the track are down and a trip around the circuit proves that the 17,000 spectators in the primary grandstand will be able to view between 60 per cent and 70 per cent of the undulating track at all times.A further two layers of tarmac are required before the circuit reaches standards set by the FIA, the board responsible for Formula 1 and the Superbike regulatory board, FIM.

However, although the circuit is almost five kilometres long, it only takes 72 hours to lay the tarmac. “When we lay the tarmac we work around the clock in a constant process so there are no joins in the track and it is perfectly smooth. The tarmac laying will not be delaying the opening in November,” said Nuno Cerqueira. “It may look like we will not be finished but next month we are doubling the work force. The park is so big it is hard to see how many workers are here but there are plenty of people to get the job done.” Tourist destination It is hoped by the developers of the motor park that when everything is completed the park will become an alternative tourist destination. “We want to offer something that can be used all year round and not just on race days. There will be the go kart track, opportunities to practicestunt driving, a sports complex, conferencing facilities and green areas. We are hoping this will provide a day out for the entire family as an alternative to traditional Algarve tourist attractions,” said Nuno Cerqueira. The first race to be held on the track will be the final race of the Superbike World Championship 2008 on November 2.Tickets for the inaugural race are expected to be on sale by the beginning of August. Part of the Parque da Alfarrobeira to the north of the municipal stadium, the skate-park was designed and planned with the aim of creating appropriate facilities for skate-boarding, BMX Freestyle and in-line skating in their most popular versions, Street and Ramp, and with different levels of difficulty.

The programme for opening the Extreme Sports Park started at 9 in the morning and lasted until five in the afternoon.

As well as the distribution of gifts and interaction with people attending, there were demonstrations of skills by respected athletes and the competition “Albufeira / DVS Skate Jam” by the team Quebra Coco. Following the opening ceremony, the athletes were presented with souvenirs of the occasion and prizes, while a drawing team created a graffiti drawing to embellish one of the walls in the new park.

In the same area as the Municipal Stadium, the future “Cidade Desportiva” (Sports City) will have an athletics track, synthetic pitches, the future sports pavilion, the extreme sports park and the Parque da Alfarrobeira, which will include a large space for playing open-air games at any time of the year.

The new skate-park was presented as the biggest in the Iberian Peninsula and has a beginners area, with “quarter pipes”, “flat banks” and a learners' area.
